Boats rested beside the white houses with contrasting balconies, doors, and stairs. The bright colors reflected softly in the calm sea. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eStanding there, it was easy to imagine the rhythm of life that has unfolded here for generations along the coast of Milos.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eWe walked around the area and found an open shop (shown on the canvas, the building with the yellow balcony). Beach art pieces hung at the entrance of the shop. I went in to take a peek. From the outside, the buildings looked like regular homes. However, once we went into one, I noticed how these houses were built into the rocks. These boat houses, known as Syrmata, are why this area of Milos has gained popularity. In the past, these two-story Syrmata homes were used by local fishermen.
